Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy
The World Journal of Future Technologies in Computer Science and Engineering (WJFTCSE) recognizes the importance of long-term preservation, permanent accessibility, and continued availability of scholarly literature. The journal is committed to protecting published research against accidental loss, technological obsolescence, system failures, or organizational changes by supporting internationally recognized digital preservation practices.
Digital preservation is an essential component of responsible scholarly publishing. WJFTCSE endeavors to preserve the integrity, authenticity, discoverability, and accessibility of its published content for present and future generations of researchers.
1. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)
If the journal is enrolled in the CLOCKSS programme, published content is preserved through the Controlled LOCKSS (CLOCKSS) archival network.
CLOCKSS is an internationally recognized, community-governed digital preservation initiative designed specifically for scholarly publications. It operates through a geographically distributed network of preservation nodes maintained by leading academic libraries and research institutions worldwide.
The primary objectives of CLOCKSS include:
- Long-term preservation of published scholarly content.
- Protection against data loss caused by technical failures, disasters, or publisher interruption.
- Distributed preservation through multiple independent archive locations.
- Maintenance of content authenticity and integrity.
- Ensuring continued public access if preserved content is formally triggered under CLOCKSS policies.
The CLOCKSS infrastructure is designed to preserve the scholarly record independently of any individual publisher.
2. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
If applicable, WJFTCSE supports preservation through the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) programme.
LOCKSS is a decentralized digital preservation system developed to ensure the long-term availability of scholarly publications by maintaining multiple authenticated copies across participating academic libraries worldwide.
The LOCKSS preservation model provides:
- Distributed preservation across multiple institutions.
- Protection against accidental data loss.
- Redundant archival copies.
- Integrity verification through continual preservation checks.
- Recovery mechanisms in the event of file corruption or system failure.
The decentralized nature of LOCKSS significantly improves the resilience and long-term preservation of scholarly content.
3. PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
If enrolled, WJFTCSE participates in the Public Knowledge Project Preservation Network (PKP PN).
The PKP Preservation Network provides free preservation services for eligible Open Journal Systems (OJS) journals and is designed to ensure permanent preservation of scholarly publications through secure distributed archiving.
The PKP Preservation Network supports:
- Long-term preservation of Open Access journal content.
- Distributed preservation infrastructure.
- Secure archival storage.
- Protection against accidental data loss.
- Long-term accessibility of published research.
The network enhances the sustainability and preservation of digital scholarly communication.
4. Publisher Archival Infrastructure
In addition to external preservation services where applicable, WJFTCSE maintains secure publisher-managed preservation procedures that include routine system backups, redundant storage infrastructure, secure cloud-based storage, metadata preservation, and disaster recovery mechanisms.
Published articles are preserved together with their associated metadata, publication history, DOI information (where applicable), author information, supplementary files, and editorial records.
5. Permanent Accessibility
WJFTCSE is committed to ensuring that published articles remain permanently available as part of the scholarly record. Once an article is formally published, it remains part of the journal archive unless editorial action such as correction, withdrawal, or retraction becomes necessary in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
6. Metadata Preservation
The journal endeavors to preserve bibliographic metadata, author information, abstracts, keywords, references, publication history, licensing information, and persistent identifiers to maximize long-term discoverability and scholarly citation.
7. Preservation of Research Integrity
Digital preservation extends beyond file storage and includes safeguarding the authenticity, integrity, completeness, and reliability of the published scholarly record. Any corrections, editorial notices, expressions of concern, or retractions are permanently linked to the original publication to maintain transparency and research integrity.
8. Policy Review
The Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy may be reviewed periodically to reflect developments in preservation technologies, scholarly publishing standards, international best practices, and future preservation partnerships adopted by WJFTCSE.
